In a significant legal development, Opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari was granted relief as the Calcutta High Court rejected a petition filed against him. The case stemmed from a statement Adhikari made during a protest organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in front of Jadavpur University following the unfortunate demise of a student.
Subsequently, a complaint was filed with the police, requesting an FIR against the opposition leader for his remarks. In a verdict delivered by Justice Joy Sengupta, the court dismissed the request to register an FIR, emphasizing that Adhikari's language was not explicitly aimed at any particular individual.
While exonerating Adhikari from potential criminal proceedings, the court underscored the importance of individuals in prominent positions being mindful of their language in public spaces to avert any potential misunderstandings.
